\u00ab Mati\u00e8re\/Humaine<\/em>. Les mots lui viennent comme \u00e7a, pendant qu\u2019elle s\u2019observe devant la glace de ces WC d\u2019artistes. Elle les fredonne : Mati\u00e8re\/Humaine<\/em>\u2026 Ils lui viennent en t\u00eate \u00e0 l\u2019instant m\u00eame o\u00f9 elle constate que la musique des lieux, jamais, ne pourra retentir avec les taches de mercure qui s\u2019\u00e9talent sur le miroir. Un sentiment nouveau, subliminal, la flashe \u00bb. Elle c\u2019est Anthea, h\u00e9ro\u00efnes de La mati\u00e8re humaine<\/em>, le deuxi\u00e8me roman de John Jefferson Selve. Son alter ego et quasi pendant masculin est Saul bien qu\u2019il ne faille pas n\u00e9gliger la troisi\u00e8me figure essentielle du roman, John, qui distille tout au long de leurs aventures de nuit comme de jour des r\u00e9f\u00e9rences litt\u00e9raires.

\u00ab Mati\u00e8re\/Humaine<\/em>. Les mots r\u00e9sonnent de nouveau dans sa t\u00eate en vrac. Avec violence. \/ Anthea danse avec des images de mort dans la t\u00eate. La derni\u00e8re guerre commence<\/em>. \u00bb Serait-ce celle qui en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 a d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00e9but\u00e9 depuis des d\u00e9cennies, que Anthea, John et Saul ont toujours connu, depuis leur naissance, et qui est sur le point de se cristalliser dans l\u2019\u00e9lection pr\u00e9sidentielle fran\u00e7aise de 2027? Probablement puisque l\u2019on suit les trois personnages quelques heures avant l\u2019annonce des r\u00e9sultats de celle-ci. Car une \u00e9lection pr\u00e9sidentielle, en France, \u00e7a r\u00e9sulte. Mais cette violence est aussi celle de la force de l\u2019ordre qui s\u2019abat sur un enfant, livreur de coca\u00efne.

\u00ab Le jour s\u2019est lev\u00e9. Tout gronde. Trop de dope. Trop d\u2019alcool. John est parti. Anthea n\u2019est pas l\u00e0. Un instant, je ne sais plus o\u00f9 je suis, ni qui je suis. \u00c7a m\u2019arrivait souvent enfant \u00bb. L\u2019enfance submerge presque ce roman, l\u2019enfance pour ce qu\u2019elle a de sauvage et d\u2019innocence, pour ce qu\u2019elle est fortune ou infortune. Mais l\u2019enfance, pour ce qu\u2019elle persiste encore, est aussi espoir. \u00ab \u00c0 leurs pieds, tout autour d\u2019eux, des flaques noires comme des orques. Il a l\u2019impression d\u2019\u00eatre au septi\u00e8me jour de la Cr\u00e9ation. Le monde va accoucher d\u2019un spectre. Il veut en faire une phrase pour plus tard \u2014 avant qu\u2019Anthea ne prenne son visage entre ses mains, et ne lui souffle: \/ \u2014L\u2019ESPOIR, SAUL, L\u2019ESPOIR. \u00bb Telle est aussi la mati\u00e8re humaine espoir qui, peut-\u00eatre, contredira la sombre et funeste pr\u00e9diction de \u00ab La poudre \u00bb, autrement dit l\u2019esprit de drogue, autre figure du roman de JJS: \u00ab Moi-m\u00eame je vais dispara\u00eetre, remplac\u00e9e par une drogue sans nom et sans odeur. Une conscience mondiale qui bannira toute contradiction. Camisole-monde loin de toute la mati\u00e8re humaine. Et l\u00e0, vous me chercherez, vous rappelant que, malgr\u00e9 ma morsure mortelle, je n\u2019\u00e9tais pas sans beaut\u00e9 \u00bb.
